During my quest to read the entire Bible and I found the most wild story in Genesis 9 (The Message):
“Noah, a farmer, was the first to plant a vineyard. He drank from its wine, got drunk and passed out, naked in his tent. Ham, the father of Canaan, saw that his father was naked and told his two brothers who were outside the tent. Shem and Japheth took a cloak, held it between them from their shoulders, walked backwards and covered their father’s nakedness, keeping their faces turned away so they did not see their father’s exposed body.
When Noah woke up with his hangover, he learned what his youngest son had done.”
There is a paragraph where he curses Ham’s son Canaan since Ham did not help him and praises the God of Shem and also wishes praises to Japheth. Then the story of Noah ends with:
“Noah lived another 350 years following the flood. He lived a total of 950 years. And he died.”
THIS IS AMAZING! Even a HANGOVER is recorded in the Bible. My Mom points out that nakedness is a big theme involving shame so they were protecting Noah’s honor. But let’s point out that the writer of Genesis, who also wrote of the creation of ALL THINGS who also documented the great flood in which Noah and his family (including his 3 sons) WERE THE ONLY HUMAN SURVIVORS and then we conclude that story with Noah getting wasted AND naked. Then a curse, praise and his death. Very strange.
