img_8882Leaving was quite the journey. I originally planned on leaving Erie Thursday and then leaving for my home from Indianapolis that following Tuesday. So I began weighing travel options including taking a train, driving and flying. At first Tyler was going to drive me, but then that started to not work out. With the new plan I began looking into taking a train, but that got shot down because Josh didn’t think he was going to be able to make the two hour drive from his house to the train station with all the snow they had gotten. Please bear in mind that this storm was NUTS! Erie got so much MORE snow than the 3 FEET they already had! On Thursday Tyler showed up at Brian’s house and the plan was to drive THROUGH the blizzard. Please look at these photos. I honestly thought we could die.

PLEASE CLICK THE FIRST PHOTO so you can see how deep the snow was.

The second to last photo is a picture of Brian’s Mom. She was the lovely woman who fed me, and even folded my clean clothes for me! There is only more story after the BUMP

Before we left I prayed with Tyler in the car and asked God that if we were about to get ourself into a terrible plan I asked that He would block our path. There were only two highways we could get out of. It was 6 pm, the sun was going down and we had just committed to a 6 hour (this would be during CLEAR WEATHER) drive. The first exit we got too Tyler’s car got completely stuck in the slush. After about ten minutes a truck drive saw us and SINGLE HANDEDLY pushed us out. Tyler kept assuring me that it was going to be ok (I was a little nervous)…so we continued to find the second ramp. This one just happened to be clear and we did make it onto the highway. The first 2 hours were crazy. 18 wheelers were plowing past us and we were driving all over some slush while the snow continued to fall. I was definitely fearful but Tyler’s confidence calmed me.

After 9 HOURS we made it to Josh’s house in Indianapolis IN. It was such a long drive, but Tyler and I were totally brothers separated at birth. We talked the entire ride and didn’t get sleepy one bit. By this time it was 2 AM and Josh greeted us at the door with MIGHTY MUGGS! What a great greeting for being dead tired.

The next post will cover my time in Indy.
