This past Monday I traveled to the Carolina Mountains with Whitney on her two days off. The original plan was to stay Monday night, then leave on Tuesday. The weather, however, had a different plan. Around 9pm on Monday I looked out the window and asked “is it snowing”? The snow did not stop until Tuesday afternoon. There was a good four inches built up on the table outside. So needless to say we got snowed in until Wednesday. So many epic and wonderful things happened. We had plenty of firewood to keep the house warm and there was a fair amount of food to keep us from getting worried. You can read more and see some photos after the bump.
On Tuesday we tried to figure out what to do about leaving. There were no people at the homes around us so we just kept walking until we found cars. It was like being in an abandoned town. After ringing a number of doors we finally found a wonderful older couple who welcomed us into their home and let us use their phone. Did I mention we had no phone, no cell service and no internet access? We had no way of letting our parents know we were safe until we found the couple mentioned above. They even gave us some lasagna to have for dinner! From what we could tell the roads were no good and Bill the gentleman we had just met took us to Fred’s store so we could buy a few items to last us the coming night. Wednesday was a beautiful day and the roads were wonderful despite the road that connected us to the main one leading down the mountain. All in all it was a perfect adventure!
